It’s been a minute since I read anything worth writing about! But here it is – a twisty dark novel that keeps you guessing until the very end.

Alice, a young woman (late teens) has spent her entire life on the run, her mother never stops moving, but she knows her grandmother is the famous elusive author of a rare book on fairy tales. When a letter arrives telling her grandmother’s death, Alice’s mother decides it safe to stop moving and they burrow down in New York. But their bad luck continues to follow them.

What happens next is a tale that is beautifully told and not like anything I’ve read recently which may be why it grabbed me. While parts of it are spooky (tried to read something else a little bit before going to sleep) it is haunting in a way that makes it feel more true even though it’s fiction.

Definitely a must read if you enjoy fairy tales and/or tales of self discovery.
