Essentially it’s about a young man Ig (Radcliffe) whose accused of murdering his girlfriend when she shows up murdered. Somehow he grows horns which allow him to some supernatural powers. People are compelled to tell him the truth, and as they grow his powers grow and he can control snakes and compel people to do things. All the while we’re trying to unravel the puzzle of who actually killed the girl.
The problem with everyone telling you the truth no matter what is you learn a lot of awful dark secrets about folks. Everyone around Ig is pretty screwed up and he has to go through a hell of a trial to get to the actual truth about his dead girlfriend. There are quite a few twists and turns and false endings and the whole thing is very compelling if you can get past the icky graphic parts.
At the end of the day it’s a film about the lengths we go to for love (and revenge) and as a story it’s not…badly told. But it does seem to veer off course a few times in ways that feel more like focus drift than plot twists. I don’t recommend this for folks who don’t like gore or scifi because it just won’t work for you in anyway. But if you like those genre’s you might enjoy it.
