Bad Judge – From the previews I was not thrilled about this new sitcom. It looks like a comedy vehicle for Kate Walsh but it also looks like an easy cheap joke fest. And I wasn’t wrong. The show was entertaining enough for me to watch the whole pilot episode, but the character (whose name I can’t remember five minutes after it ends) isn’t someone I want to know or watch. Pass.
Mulaney – John Mulaneys “Best Meal I Ever Had” is one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard ever. So when rumors started that he was getting a sitcom, I was excited. What I didn’t expect was that the sitcom would repeat a good amount of his stand up material, so as a fan, it’s like seeing a the film version of an audiobook. It’s cool and all but not as good as the first time. Also, Mulaney is a bit stiff and his supporting cast is wacky for wacky’s sake, not wacky in a cool, fun, hip kind of way. I’ll keep watching for a little while but I don’t know how long I can stand it. Reluctant Watch.
A to Z – I gotta say, I was really hoping for a bumper crop of sitcoms because my metaphorical DVR is full of very sad dramatic stuff. Unfortunately, I have yet to find any real stand out winners. A to Z is another ‘meh’ vote from me. I stopped watching the pilot in the middle for some reason and then totally forgot to watch the end. So yeah, Pass.
The Flash – Arrow works for me. I binge watched the back half of season 2 and am totally hooked again. Now they’ve The Flash to the family, and it follows the exact same formula as Arrow. That’s…okay I guess? I mean you change the name and the superpower and the shows are identical. But the characters are decently developed and likeable, the story has the same canon to draw from and I love a good crossover. Watch.
Cristela – This show sounded good on paper and then I saw some previews and I was underwhelmed. But the pilot is solid and funny. Her outspoken confrontation of racism is totally on point. Some aspects of the show aren’t my favorite but I definitely like the vibe. Watch.
